As part of the nationally organised Heritage Open Days, we opened our doors to visitors as one of 12 historically important local venues. We had 33 visitors who came to see and learn a little about our Church, many from the local area with others travelling from Cambridge, Peterborough and Norfolk. Displays included pictures of the original church location in Cambridge, its transfer to St. Ives, including maps and photographs, plus profiles of individuals who overcame adversity to provide the parishioners of St Ives Parish access to services at ‘Pugin’s Little Gem’. Visitor comments included: ‘Wonderful beautiful church’, ‘Very interesting indeed’, ‘Lovely Pugin church, matched by the very warm welcome and helpful guides’, ‘Really fascinating - so much to see and so many wonderful people explaining the history of the church’ among several similar sentiments. Thanks to our parishioner Ellen Kemp, who organized and led this event; coordinating with the St Ives Civic Society and displaying the historic documents which were available to view. Many thanks also to our team of seven volunteers who facilitated though the day.
